According to the latest survey from ‘Glassdoor‘, Cambridge ranks highest in a list of the best cities to work within the UK. The survey takes into consideration cost of living, best hiring opportunities and overall satisfaction.
This could be partially due to the booming tech industry, of which Cambridge is home to over 4,000 knowledge-based companies. Many of these are located at Cambridge Science park, which is home to some of the most rapidly growing businesses within the UK.
“Cambridge has emerged as a prime spot for high-tech companies”, Glassdoor said.
Dr Andrew Chamberlain, Glassdoor chief economist stated that “Cambridge has long had a reputation for one of Britain’s most loved cities, but now it’s emerged as a prime spot for high-tech companies which is clearly having an impact on where people decide to live and work.”
As a result, the city also became a hot spot for software engineers, where workers can expect to make an average salary of £35,000. Surprisingly, London did not make the top 20 due to the high cost of living there and the competitive job market.
