August`s Temp of the Month is a TV Star!!!
Wimpole Community Farm
Alex Birley, August`s Temp of the Month was seen on BBC One Look East talking about her involvement in the Wimpole Communtiy Farm scheme which is a CSA project initiated and overseen by the National Trust, located on their Wimpole Estate. It was set up in spring 2010 and the aim is to have produce available to food box subscribers in the next few months. The CSA is starting with a 1 acre plot rented from the National Trust, but it's set in a 5 acre field which is also available to rent as the project develops. We already have 30 members signed up and hope to grow to 50. The Community Farm will be organic and at first the focus will be on growing fruit, vegetables, herbs and flowers. Future plans include keeping bees and possibly setting up a sister organisation to rear livestock. The ethos of Wimpole Community Farm is based on the idea of ‘sharing the risk and sharing the harvest.’ We are also keen that members have the opportunity to learn more about growing crops and food production along with getting involved in various social activities we are planning to run through the year.
